I interviewed University of Wisconsin artist-in-residence and barber, Faisal Abdu’allah, shortly before he hosted Live Salon April 3 at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery. The event was held in an amphitheater-like space. As he gave UW associate professor Michael Peterson a “fade” (a type of haircut), the internationally acclaimed Abdu’Allah shared stories about life, art and barbershop culture. His London barbershop and art are featured in a documentary of the same name. Abdu’Allah co-instructed a course called “Bodies, Minds, Senses, and the Arts” and held a series of public seminars and presentations throughout the semester. This video I produced includes excerpts of our interview and Live Salon.
